Trails Center Announces Showing Of New Documentary Video On Ferris Mountains

CASPER, Wyo: Two screenings of a new mini-documentary produced by the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center will occur on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24.
The 27-minute video, titled "Public Lands Heritage: The Ferris Mountains", will premiere at the Nichols Auditorium on the Casper College Campus, on Saturday, June 23 at 1:00 p.m. Nichols Auditorium is located in the McMurry Career Studies Center, just south of the Tate Geological Museum at the upper (south) end of the campus. This premiere screening is hosted by the Casper College Department of Political Science, History and International Studies. This program aims to connect participants with public lands, and in turn with America’s natural and cultural heritage.
Everyone is invited to a follow-up screening at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center on Sunday, June 24 at 1:00 p.m. Please stop in for a colorful look at this isolated, mountainous forest habitat, located on public lands between Alcova and Rawlins. The Ferris Mountains provided a landmark for ancient hunters on foot, early explorers on horseback, and emigrants on their way up the Sweetwater River to the far west in wagons. Today this ancient range offers inspiration for the human spirit and opportunity for various forms of recreation. This one-hour presentation will include an introduction and a question-and-answer follow-up, in addition to the high-definition video portrait of the Ferris Mountains.

As we approach the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act, there are 30 congressionally designated National Scenic and Historic Trails in the National Trails System. National Historic Trails are extended trails that closely follow a historic trail or route of travel that is of national significance. The BLM now protects nearly 6,000 miles of 18 designated trails in 15 States, and the BLM also manages thousands of miles of trails under study for potential designation.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
