Stockade Fire burns by Pike Stockade

Sanford, Colo. – Firefighters were able to hold the 925 acre Stockade Fire on Monday even with 40 mile per hour wind gusts. The fire is now 100 percent contained with only the San Juan Hotshots and a small crew from the SLV Interagency Fire Management Unit mopping up hotspots within the interior of the burned area on Tuesday.
“I want to express my sincere thanks to all the volunteer fire departments that responded to this fast moving fire,” said SLV Field Office Manager Andrew Archuleta. “Without their quick response and hard work, this fire could have been a lot bigger.”
The Stockade Fire burned 925 acres of grass, willows and cottonwoods on private, state and BLM-managed lands.
“There are still some areas smoldering within the cottonwood groves,” said Fire Operations Specialist Paul Duarte. “These may put up some smoke for a few more days, but the chance of the fire spreading is greatly diminished.”
The SLV Interagency Fire Management Unit will continue to monitor the burned area until all the hotspots are completely extinguished.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
