TAOS, N.M. – Due to ice formation on Santa Cruz Lake and at the boat launching dock, the Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office has temporarily closed access to the Santa Cruz Lake Recreation Area.

The agency routinely closes the area for public safety each winter season once winter weather conditions warrant it.

The boat dock was removed from the lake on December 18, 2022. The lake is covered in a sheet of ice of varying thickness and may be dangerous to the public. The BLM typically reopens the lake in late February, weather dependent.
