National Public Lands Day at Ferris Creek, Battle Mountain

Battle Mountain, Nev. – On September 29 from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the Bureau of Land Management will host a National Public Lands Day habitat improvement event at Ferris Creek, located just south of Crescent Valley, Nevada. As stewards, the Bureau of Land Management manages public lands for the benefit of current and future generations, supporting conservation as we pursue our multiple-use mission. This year’s event is all about protecting an important riparian area located in the Argenta Allotment within the Mount Lewis Field Office. Ferris Creek is located in priority habitat for Greater Sage-Grouse and provides important habitat for other wildlife in the area including mule deer and chukar partridge. Event partners and participants, including Tomera Ranches, will help with the construction of a jack-rail fence that will allow wildlife to access the stream and meadow area and will help facilitate improvement to stream conditions.
In addition to constructing the riparian exclosure, public lands day work may also include the installation of Greater Sage-Grouse fence markers which are designed to reduce collations by birds into existing infrastructure on the rangelands.
The event meeting location will be Ferris Creek, in the Shoshone Mountains approx. 24 miles south of Battle Mountain. Those interested in participating should meet there at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, September 29. Each participant will receive lunch and a commemorative t-shirt. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring sunscreen. Long sleeved shirts and long pants are recommended. Lunch will be served at 12:00 p.m. and the event will close out at approximately2:00 p.m.
