(MISSOULA, Mont.) – The long-awaited plan guiding the management of some federal lands in the Missoula region is one step closer to completion.

The Bureau of Land Management’s Missoula Field Office has published a Notice of Availability in the Federal Register for the Missoula Draft Resource Management Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

The Draft RMP/EIS will address management of approximately 163,000 surface acres and 268,000 acres of federal mineral interests in northwestern Montana for the next 20-30 years.

Key issues raised in public meetings conducted by the Missoula Field Office include recreation along the popular Blackfoot River, forest and wildland fire management, hunting, and access to public lands. The RMP will incorporate regional fish and wildlife conservation strategies for species such as the grizzly bear and Canada lynx, as well as new information related to recreation uses, lands and realty management, and forest health.

The draft documents, as well as information about upcoming public meetings and instructions for submitting comments, will be available online at: https://go.usa.gov/xmyyG.  For more information about the RMP, contact project leader Maggie Ward at (406) 329-3914.
