Southern Ore. – In cooperation with two community based partner organizations, the Medford District is pleased to announce the opening of two new trails, the Jack Ash and East Applegate Ridge Trail (ART).  The BLM believes partnerships and inclusion are vital to managing sustainable, working public lands. The 4.7-mile Jack Ash Trail, connecting Jacksonville and Ashland, was built in partnership with the Siskiyou Upland Trails Association. The East ART trail is 5.6 miles and was built in cooperation with the Applegate Trails Association. Both trails offer year round multiple use non-motorized opportunities for hiking, equestrian use, and mountain biking.

Both trails are located in the Applegate Valley, within a 30-minute drive from Medford. The Jack Ash is accessible via Anderson Butte Road, with four entry points along Anderson Butte Road and BLM Road 38-2-26. The East ART is located just south of Jacksonville and is accessible via Sterling Creek Road. Equestrian and mountain bike users are asked to avoid use on the trails when excessively wet or muddy.

Continued vegetation trimming and trail tread work will continue through the fall, please be aware that there may be workers on the trail during this period.

To report any trail issues or to inquire about volunteer opportunities on either trail, contact Zach Million, Outdoor Recreation Planner at 541-618-2318 or email zmillion@blm.gov.
