Lakeview BLM announces two National Environmental Policy Act workshops

Lakeview, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lakeview District will host two National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) workshops. These workshops are free and open to anyone interested in learning more about NEPA, specifically writing substantive comments and the BLM comment responses process. Workshops will be held:

The NEPA process requires federal agencies to assess the environmental effects of proposed actions prior to making a decision. Types of actions may include but not limited to permit applications, timber harvests, and more. Through the NEPA process agencies evaluate the environmental and related social and economic effects of a proposed action. A public involvement process is required including opportunities for public review and comment on the analysis and alternatives. This workshop will help participants learn more about the process and respond to the proposed actions.
The workshops combine presentations, discussions, and exercises on public involvement in the NEPA process. Discussion will include NEPAs requirement for the BLM, why does the BLM ask for public comment, and the BLMs review and evaluation of public comments. Exercises in reviewing public comments and writing a substantive comment.

The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
