Roseburg, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management, Roseburg District is issuing an amendment to the temporary emergency closure of public lands in Douglas County, Oregon. This closure affects public lands within and adjacent to the Horse Prairie fire, on lands administered by the BLM.

The emergency closure area was expanded today after an increase in fire activity on the Horse Prairie fire on Tuesday afternoon, August 29, 2017. The expanded closure will help ensure public safety, land health, and resource integrity during ongoing suppression activities which preclude safe public access. The areas affected by this closure order will be posted with appropriate regulation signs at main access and entry points.

This closure is specific to BLM managed lands and routes. However, other private lands and routes in the fire area are also closed. The BLM managed lands are closed to motorized and non-motorized transportation, including foot traffic. This closure will be in effect immediately and will remain in effect until the Horse Prairie Fire Area hazards have been remediated.

The Horse Prairie Fire was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2017. More information on the Horse Prairie Fire is available at: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5540/
