Medford, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Butte Falls Field Office, is seeking public comment on an Environmental Assessment for the Evans Creek Forest Management Project. The project is located north of the city of Rogue River in the Evans Creek watershed. The project proposes to implement forest management on up to approximately 3,000 acres. After an initial review of landscape conditions such as forest health, stand age, stand density and structure, land use allocations, and desired future conditions, the BLM expects project actions would include selection harvest, commercial thinning, regeneration harvest, hazardous fuels reduction, reforestation, and roadwork (construction, renovation, and decommissioning).

The BLM is developing this Environmental Assessment in conformance with the 2016 Southwestern Oregon Record of Decision and Resource Management Plan and fulfill the purposes of the O&C Act. This project would also be implemented to address the need to restore and maintain forest health and resiliency of stands in the project area, and to maintain a road system that provides access for resource management and casual use, while protecting water quality and providing for user safety.

The BLM is accepting public comments during the project scoping period (October 15 – November 19, 2018). Written comments can be submitted in via email, BLM’s national register website or the postal service. Your written comments help the BLM to identify environmental issues and to develop meaningful alternatives for the proposed action. Please send comments to Medford BLM, Butte Falls Field Office, 3040 Biddle Road, Medford, OR 97504, Attention: Stephanie Kelleher or email comments to BLM_OR_MD_Mail@blm.gov (Attention: Stephanie Kelleher). Website comments can be sent through the BLM’s national register website by selecting “Comment on Document” in the Documents section of the webpage for this project.
