DUI and Registration Checkpoints Scheduled for Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. - Bureau of Land Management (BLM) law enforcement officers will be conducting driving under the influence (DUI) and registration checkpoints at several locations within Imperial County from Nov. 22 through Nov. 27 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.
Checkpoints are placed in locations based on traffic statistics and high visitor use areas. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the public and the officers in mind.
The BLM wants visitors to have a safe and enjoyable experience on public lands. Impaired drivers not only risk their own safety but those people around them, so it’s important to designate a sober driver.
The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
