Comment Period Ends Today for Proposed Production Well Project in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska

ANCHORAGE – A 60-day public comment period on the environmental analysis for a proposed oil and gas development project in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A ) will close today. A Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the project was released on February 21 for the project proposed by ConocoPhillips, Alaska, Inc. (CPAI) to develop petroleum resources within the Greater Mooses Tooth (GMT) Unit of the NPR-A. Public meetings were held in North Slope villages, Anchorage and Fairbanks. As proposed by CPAI, the project would include construction of an 11.8-acre drill pad, an eight-mile access road, above-ground elevated pipelines, and an electric power line connecting the GMT1 drill pad the CPAI is currently developing at its CD-5 site. The GMT1 project proposes access to both federal and Arctic Slope Regional Corporation oil and gas resources. While the comment period closes today, the BLM expects to have ongoing public engagement on the project. “We will continue to make every effort to consider all substantive comments submitted at any time prior to the signing of the Record of Decision,” said Bud Cribley, BLM-Alaska State Director. The current schedule plans for the release of a Final Supplemental EIS by late summer 2014, with the Record of Decision to follow in the fall. |
