Celebrate National Public Lands Day at Johnny Behind the Rocks

LANDER, Wyo. – The Bureau of Land Management Lander Field Office, in partnership with Lander Cycling, invites the community to a volunteer trail construction day at Johnny Behind the Rocks on Saturday, Sept. 22. This shared conservation stewardship project is in celebration of National Public Lands Day and month.

All are welcome. Participants will meet at Johnny Behind the Rocks at 9 a.m. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring gloves, water and food.

“I hope people can join us and take the morning to get outside, enjoy public lands in their own backyard, and get some valuable work done, too,” said BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Michael Coyne.

The Johnny Behind the Rocks Recreation Zone, located approximately15 miles southeast of Lander on Highway 287, provides non-motorized recreation opportunities year-round. The BLM has partnered for many years with Lander Cycling, the International Mountain Bike Association and the community to enhance this local recreational area.

NPLD began in 1994 with three sites and 700 volunteers. Since then, the event has grown by leaps and bounds and is now the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for the care of public lands.
