Roseburg, Ore. – As part of the commitment to improve forest resiliency and sustainability, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Roseburg District is proposing a plan to maintain and enhance habitat diversity within Late-Successional and Riparian Reserves throughout the South River Field Office. The BLM is seeking public input on the proposed plan. This input is critical to the planning process and to determining the scope of issues to be addressed in the environmental assessment (EA).

Late-Successional Reserves and Riparian Reserves are allocated to contribute to the conservation and recovery of threatened and endangered species, and provide clean water in watersheds.

The BLM is considering a combination of silvicultural or other vegetation management treatments, fire and fuels management activities, and restoration activities. The BLM has initiated public scoping, a process where the BLM solicits internal and external input on the issues, impacts, and potential alternatives that will be addressed in the Late-Successional Reserve Landscape Management Plan Environmental Assessment (EA).

The public scoping period will remain open until June 11, 2021. A public meeting will be held on June 9, 2021, at 6:00 pm to provide further information about the proposed activities.

Register in advance for the meeting at:

https://blm.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_YhQTtr1vQLC6AyE4LS2rGA

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

This EA will be a programmatic analysis, considering the effects of enhancement and/or restoration actions that may occur across the analysis area. The EA is not an implementation plan. Site-specific treatments based on the plan will be reviewed for conformance with the programmatic EA in subsequent Determinations of National Environmental Policy Act Adequacy prior to implementation.

A scoping letter containing information on the proposed action and instructions for submitting written comments are available on the BLM National NEPA Register at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/home under the NEPA number DOI-BLM-ORWA-R050-2021-0001-EA.

Comments may be submitted to Sarah Bickford, South River Field Manager by close of business June 11, 2021 via email at BLM_OR_RB_LSR_Mgmt_Plan@blm.gov. Please specify the project name in the subject. Comments may also be submitted by mail, addressed to:
