Bureau of Land Management Schedules Public Meetings to Address Juniper Flats Restoration Project

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management Barstow Field Office has scheduled two public meetings to update the local community on the ongoing Juniper Flats Restoration Project. The restoration project is located in the northern foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains south of Apple Valley.
The first public meeting will be scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Apple Valley Fire Center located at: 18809 Central Rd, Apple Valley, CA. The meeting will run from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Restoration staff and labor crews will provide an overview of work completed and highlight future plans. The public will be given the opportunity to comment and discuss ways of getting involved.
A second outreach event will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Tahiti Falls off of Powerline Rd. in Juniper Flats. The outreach day will be designed to highlight the resources in the Juniper Flats resource area and to educate the public about safe and respectful uses of the area.
The restoration project, funded by a three year grant, began over a year and a half ago. So far, the work completed includes the installation of route signs, boundary fence maintenance, restoration of illegal routes of travel, installation of kiosks, and development of interpretive materials. Work crews have consisted of BLM staff, crews from the Farmworker Institute of Education and Leadership Development (FIELD), and volunteers from the Juniper Flats Working Group.
