CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management, Sierra Front Field Office has approved the Moon Rocks Off-highway Vehicle (OHV) Area Public Health and Safety Improvements. These improvements will address immediate public health and safety issues on BLM-administered land in the north Reno area, also known a Moon Rocks.

"The BLM approving this important project addresses many public health and safety issues at this popular OHV recreation area,” said Ken Collum, Carson City District Manager.

The Project area is located west of the State Route 445 and Winnemucca Ranch Road intersection, approximately 15 miles north of Reno, in unincorporated Washoe County, Nevada. The BLM will implement these improvements on approximately 19,050 acres of public land. Some improvements will include public outreach including kiosks and additional signage; increase funding through grants; a fence for resource protection to limit uncontrolled, user created expansion of camping areas and OHV routes; upgrade road and route maintenance with traffic control barriers, establish control access points; develop supplemental rules to target specific public health and safety and resource concerns; define camp areas and install a permanent restroom; provide dumpsters for waste disposal; identify speed limit and install signs and traffic counters.
