LAKEVIEW, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management is announcing that the Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will hold virtual meetings January 19-20 and April 20-21, 2022. The public is welcome to attend these meetings. The January 19 meeting will be held Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, and the January 20 meeting will be held Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon Pacific Time. The April 20 meeting will also be held Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, and the April 21 meeting will be held Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon Pacific Time
Advisory councils provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior on public land resource and management issues. Each citizen-based council consists of up to 15 members that represent diverse interests present in the local community.
“The RAC provides input on a wide range of BLM activities throughout the State,” Lakeview District Manager Todd Forbes said. “This diverse group of individuals from across Southeast Oregon share different perspectives and help inform our decision-making.”
Both the January and April meetings will include updates and opportunities for RAC input regarding the Southeast Oregon and Lakeview Resource Management Plan Amendment processes; discussions on rangeland and grazing, and wild horse and burro herd management areas; review of and/or recommendations regarding proposed actions by the Burns, Vale, or Lakeview BLM Districts; and any other business that may reasonably come before the RAC. At the January meeting, the RAC will have a discussion on commercial and dispersed recreation and opportunities for maintaining and enhancing public land access. Topics for the April meeting include discussions on programmatic environmental impact statements and categorical exclusions and how they relate to land management in eastern Oregon.
A half-hour comment period, during which the public may address the RAC, will be held the last half hour of each day’s meeting. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.
