St. George, Utah—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah St. George Field Office is accepting public comments on an Environmental Assessment (EA) analyzing a proposed land exchange between the BLM and Brennan Holdings, LLC involving lands in Washington County, Utah.

If the exchange is approved, the BLM would acquire private lands in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve just north of St. George, and Brennan Holdings would acquire approximately 605 acres of public land in Long Valley, just east of the City of Washington.

The EA was prepared in cooperation with Washington County, as the proposed exchange would further the goal of Washington County’s Habitat Conservation Plan for the threatened Mojave Desert tortoise.  The plan calls for acquiring private lands within the Reserve into public ownership.

A copy of the EA is available for review on the BLM’s ePlanning website at:  https://eplanning.blm.gov/epl-front-office/eplanning/nepa/nepa_register.do) and comments can be submitted electronically through this site.  The comment period ends May 5, 2016.

Comments can also be mailed or hand delivered to:

Please reference “Red Cliffs/Long Valley Exchange EA” when submitting comments.
