BLM Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Withdrawal of Public Land in Tooele County

Salt Lake City—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Salt Lake Field Office has filed a Petition/Application with the Secretary of the Interior to withdraw 747.10 acres of federally- administered public land at the Simpson Springs Recreation Management Area and Historic Site in Tooele County, Utah.  The proposed withdrawal is to protect the unique recreational, historical, and visual resources, and to protect site developments from potentially damaging surface disturbing activities.
 
The BLM-Utah Salt Lake Field Office announced the proposed withdrawal in a notice available online in today’s Federal Register.  The Salt Lake Field Office, acting under the provisions of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, welcomes public comments on the proposed withdrawal of public land.  Under the act, the Secretary of the Interior may withdraw public lands from location and entry under various public land laws in order to protect a resource, a specific use, or for other proprietary purposes.

An opportunity for a public meeting is afforded in connection with the proposed withdrawal.  All interested parties who desire a public meeting must submit a written request to the BLM State Director at the address indicated above within 90 days.  Upon determination by the authorized officer that a public meeting will be held, a notice of the time and place will be published in the Federal Register and a local newspaper at least 30 days before the scheduled date of the meeting.
