BLM seeks comments on withdrawal extension for Federal Law Enforcement Training Center

CARLSBAD, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is accepting comments on an application from the Department of Homeland Security for the extension of Public Lands Order No. 7591, which sets aside land for the protection, operation, and maintenance of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, located in Eddy County, N.M. If approved, the withdrawal extension will continue protecting about 1,921 acres of public lands from location and entry under U.S. mining laws for an additional 20 years.
Tomorrow, the BLM will publish a notice of application for withdrawal extension in the Federal Register. That notice initiates a 90-day public comment period. During the comment period, the public can request a public meeting to learn more about the DHS application.

Comments must be received by Oct. 5, 2023, and will be available for public review, including respondents’ names and addresses.
If someone requests public engagement and the BLM determines it is appropriate, we will provide the date, time and location to local newspapers and post the information on the BLM New Mexico website at least 30 days before the engagement.
