SALT LAKE CITY — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) West Desert District is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment (EA) analyzing the BLM’s proposal to offer nine parcels covering 14,943 acres for oil and gas leasing in  Juab County, Utah.  The parcels would be offered in a lease sale set for September 2017.

Maps and additional information about the proposed parcels are included in the EA, which is available at the project webpage, http://go.usa.gov/xXkvq, on BLM’s National NEPA Register.

The public review and comment period closes at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017.  Comments are most useful when they identify issues relevant to the proposed action or contain new technical or scientific information.  Comments that contain only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response, but may be considered in the BLM decision-making process.

Commenters should reference “September 2017 Oil and Gas Lease Sale” when submitting comments.  Comments may be submitted by any of the following methods:

Commenters should be aware that their entire comment, including personal identifying information, may be made publicly available at any time.  Requests to withhold personal identifying information from public review can be submitted, but the BLM cannot guarantee that it will be able to do so.

Three additional parcels located in the Color Country District which were originally scheduled to be offered at the June 2017 lease sale are also being considered for offer at the September Oil and Gas Lease Sale. Combined, the three proposed parcels cover 4,730 acres in Washington County.  The parcels were postponed at the request of the National Park Service to extend the public comment period for those particular parcels from the original end date of Feb. 10, to March 9, 2017.  The comment period regarding those three parcels has now closed.
