SALMON, ID - Idaho's weather is changing by the minute, and continued moisture is having an impact on some recreational areas. The Salmon Field Office (SFO) has issued an emergency closure for Discovery Hill Bluffs Road due to highly erosive soil conditions.

"We want to make sure we can provide amazing recreational opportunities and that requires us to take active steps if problems with road conditions persist," said James Townley, Outdoor Recreation Planner. The freeze and thaw conditions, combined with high amounts of precipitation, have created road conditions susceptible to severe rutting and erosion. To prevent future damage and reduce repair costs, the SFO has decided to close the area to motorized travel until soil conditions improve.

The previously closed Morgan Bar and Shoup Bridge are now open as snow levels have decreased and temperatures have increased. "While these areas are now open, we ask that the public remain vigilant of their surroundings. Changing weather conditions can dramatically impact safety. Please stay cognizant of hazards," said Townley.

The SFO thanks the public for their assistance and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. For more information, please contact the SFO at 208-756-5400.
