COTTONWOOD, ID – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announces the release of the Record of Decision and approved Cottonwood Resource Management Plan (RMP) Amendment for Domestic Sheep Grazing.

The Record of Decision and RMP amendment address concerns regarding the potential for disease transmission from domestic sheep and goats to bighorn sheep on four grazing allotments located in or near bighorn sheep habitat:  Big Creek, Hard Creek, Partridge Creek and Marshall Mountain – all located within Idaho and Adams Counties.

The approved amendment prohibits domestic sheep and goat grazing on 18,966 acres within three of the allotments and requires specific measures for managing domestic sheep on 439 acres in the Big Creek allotment.  All four of the allotments will still be available for grazing by other types of livestock.

The ROD and approved amendment are available on the BLM project website at: http://bit.ly/BLMCottonwoodSheepSEIS (case sensitive).  A limited number of printed copies and compact disks are available upon request by contacting the Cottonwood Field Office at (208) 962-3245.
