SUSANVILLE, Calif. — Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management plan to burn branches and brush in an area near the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The piles will be ignited only if weather and fuel conditions allow for safe burning. Smoke may be visible from State Route 36 in the project area about five miles west of Susanville.

The project is designed to reduce hazardous fuels that could feed a wildfire, and to improve the scenic quality along the recreational trail. The project is located within the burn scar of the Hog Wildfire of 2020 and will cover about 10 acres.

The BLM conducts prescribed fire projects, including pile burning, in accordance with burn plans that specify allowable weather and fuel conditions and the equipment and personnel required.
