BLM Nevada Fire Fighters Prepared for Upcoming Holiday Weekend

Bureau of Land Management-Nevada fire fighters and personnel are on extended staffing for this weekend, with the anticipation of lightning and fire danger."We are all well aware of the ultra-dry conditions we have in Nevada right now," Paul Petersen, Acting State Fire Management Officer said. "The staffing needs for this weekend are very important with our visitors recreating on public lands and enjoying their families during the holiday. We want to keep everyone safe."BLM Resources in Nevada include:1 Load of Smokejumpers (16 highly qualified fire fighters)13 Single Engine Air Tankers4 Helicopters3 Air Attack - Aerial Fire Detection and Recon Aircraft7 dozersA total of 67 engines statewide, including 4 Strike Teams (5 engines per strike team) of engines from outside of Nevada."We work closely every year with our wildland fire cooperators, they also provide additional staffing and resources," Petersen said. "Having a great relationship with our community is key to providing safety to our firefighters and public."Fire Restrictions are in effect for Southern and Western Nevada."We need the public to be responsible when they are out on public lands, it only takes a spark." Petersen said. "If people are respectful of the land, then it allows our firefighters to focus on responding to the lightning caused fires."Fireworks are always illegal on Nevada public lands and also violate the Fire Restriction orders that went into effect May 14 and June 26, 2015.
