BLM to lease land to Washoe County for Sun Valley school campus project

CARSON CITY, Nev. – As part of its commitment to serve the American family, the Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District will today announce in the Federal Register that it will provide for the lease 80 acres of public land to the Washoe County School District. The property, located in Sun Valley, Nevada, will be used for construction of a new middle school, which will help address the need for additional growth within the school district. “BLM strives to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve by providing opportunities for growth,” said Carson City District Manager Ralph Thomas. “By leasing this land to the Washoe County School District we can help them provide additional space for students.”
The property will be conveyed under the Recreation & Public Purposes Act, which authorizes the sale or lease of BLM-managed lands for recreational or public purposes to State and local governments and to qualified non-profit organizations. Written comments on the lease/conveyance will be accepted on or before November 27, 2017, and can be submitted to Byrant Smith, Field Manager, Sierra Front Field Office, 5655 Morgan Mill Rd, Carson City, NV 89701.
If approved, school construction is expected to start in late 2017. The project will result in direct creation of 100 temporary construction jobs, and when finished the school will permanently employ approximately that same number of staff and support staff.
