BLM hosts pre-scoping meetings for Newcastle, Nebraska Land Use Plans

Newcastle, Wyo. – The Bureau of Land Management will host two open house public meetings at the end of August to solicit early public involvement in the upcoming revisions of the Newcastle and Nebraska Resource Management Plans.

The meetings are part of pre-scoping outreach to engage the public early in the planning process. Dates and locations of the meetings are as follows:

  • August 30 – 3-7 p.m.: Weston County Senior Center, 627 Pine St., Newcastle, WY
  • August 31 – 3-7 p.m.: Lied Scottsbluff Public Library, 1809 3rd Ave., Scottsbluff, NE

The public is invited to help identify issues or concerns that should be addressed in the planning process. Comments will be used to help set the parameters and scope for the planning process.

The open house meetings will provide opportunities for the public to speak to specialists, ask questions and submit written comments in person. Written comments may be submitted at the meetings or by mail at ATTN: NFO RMP Project Manager, BLM Newcastle Field Office, 1101 Washington Blvd., Newcastle, WY 82701 or via the ePlanning project page at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2013064/510. The BLM is requesting comments be submitted by September 16, 2022.

The 1999 Newcastle and 1992 Nebraska RMPs guide the management of approximately 292,000 surfaces acres and 1.6 million acres of mineral estate in Wyoming, as well as 6,600 surface acres and 240,000 acres of mineral estate in Nebraska. A Notice of Intent to initiate the formal planning process is anticipated for summer 2023 and will include a formal public scoping period.
