FILLMORE, UTAH—The Bureau of Land Management Fillmore Field Office invites the public to attend open houses regarding the University of Utah’s Telescope Array Times Four (TAx4) proposal. These open houses are intended to help the BLM identify the scope of issues associated with the proposal. Issues identified during the scoping period will be considered during preparation of the NEPA analysis.
The proposed project is an expansion of the university’s existing Telescope Array Project that began in 2006, and the Telescope Array Low Energy Extension Project deployed in 2013. The proposal would expand the current project area on BLM and state lands in Millard County and extend into southern Juab County, allowing for increased research into the nature and origin of cosmic rays. Additional information about the project is located at: https://go.usa.gov/xnrqb.
“While the BLM supports the advancement of science and technology, the agency also serves the American family,” said Michael Gates, BLM Fillmore Field Office Manager. “To achieve a balance between international scientific study and neighboring community uses, we are seeking public input from stakeholders and cooperators.”
Open houses will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the following locations:
- Wednesday, Nov. 15: Millard School District Board Room, 285 East 450 North, Delta, Utah.
- Thursday, Nov. 16: Juab High School, 802 North 650 East, Nephi, Utah.
The open houses will provide an opportunity to talk with BLM specialists and university representatives, and submit written comments in person. Please reference TAx4 when submitting comments. Written comments will be accepted by mail or email at the following addresses through Dec. 18, 2017.
