Grants Pass, Ore. — Bureau of Land Management officials are extending the public comment period for the Late Mungers Integrated Vegetation Management Project through June 28, 2022.

“Based on public interest in the project and requests from the local community, it’s in the public's best interest we extend the comment period,” said Bill Dean, BLM Grants Pass Field Office Manager. The proposed vegetation treatments are planned near the communities of Murphy and Williams.

The project is designed to promote and develop safe wildfire response, fire resilient land, and habitat for special status species. Proposed treatments include prescribed fire, small diameter thinning, commercial thinning, and selection harvest on about 7,435 acres of BLM-administered lands.

The proposal includes 798 acres of proposed commercial treatments divided into two units: Late Mungers and Penn Butte.

All written comments can be submitted at the ePlanning website at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2018484/510 and must be received by June 28, 2022. A decision on the project will not be made until public comments have been considered.
