Battle Mountain, NV. -- The Bureau of Land Management, Battle Mountain District (Tonopah Field Office) intends to conduct slash pile burning in Nye County around the community of Ione and in Esmeralda County near the community of Lida. The burns will serve as continuations of the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) fuels reduction projects in those areas and are necessary for the enhancement of fuel breaks designed for community protection in the event of a wildfire.

Pile burning may occur any time between now and June 1, 2017, but at this time the BLM anticipates burning piles between January 16th and January 20th depending upon favorable weather conditions.  The intent is to dispose of slash piles generated from thinning activities.  The Nye County burn will take place on the northeast side of Ione and the Esmeralda County burn will take place one to two miles west of Lida.

Smoke may be visible at times from Ione, the upper Reese River valley, Berlin, Lida and other nearby communities.  Ignition operations will be intermittent to allow for adequate smoke dispersal and may last several days.
