BLM to conduct prescribed burn in Millard County

FILLMORE, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) West Desert District will conduct a prescribed burn on 62.5 acres of public lands, two miles east of the town of Gandy, in Millard County later this week. In the event of unfavorable weather, the burn will occur within the October 11 – 13 window. The prescribed burn is expected to last one day, with an additional day of monitoring and clean up.
Smoke may be visible from adjacent highways or in local communities. While roads will remain open, smoke may reduce visibility along roads and trails near the burn area. Fire crews will monitor the prescribed burn area until there is no perceived risk to other resources.

The prescribed burn will reduce vegetation in riparian areas and open water travel corridors to improve aquatic habitat connectivity for the Least Chub, a sensitive species found only in Utah.
