BLM closes doors to 43-year-old visitor center at Little Sahara Recreation Area

FILLMORE, Utah —The Bureau of Land Management is closing the doors on the 43-year-old Willard R. Fullmer Visitor Center at Little Sahara Recreation Area on Sept. 12 to allow for building demolition; the new visitor center building is in the final phase of construction. While both visitor centers are in transition, in-person customer service will continue onsite in a mobile trailer. Both facilities are co-located less than two hours southwest of Salt Lake City.
“The BLM is eager to welcome the public into the new visitor center at Little Sahara Recreation Area in spring 2023,” said BLM Fillmore Field Manager Cindy Ledbetter. “Demolition of the Willard R. Fullmer Visitor Center is a necessary step to get us to the finish line for this project. We ask the public to remain flexible as we work to provide exceptional customer service in an unusual setting.”
The public is encouraged to purchase passes ahead of time on Recreation.gov, through the Recreation.gov app or by calling the national reservation hotline at 1-877-444-6777. Recreation passes purchased online should be printed and displayed on the vehicle dashboard. Visitors who purchase annual passes on Recreation.gov must present the printed pass with the QR code at the onsite mobile trailer to receive a vehicle sticker.
The BLM anticipates opening the new visitor center ahead of Easter weekend 2023 with enhanced visitor access to pay stations, a new interpretation area, additional flush restrooms, greater capacity for employee meetings and public events, improved Wi-Fi capabilities and improved energy efficiencies.
