TUCSON, Ariz.  – In response to the large turnout at the first public meeting in Sierra Vista, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has changed the locations for the Benson and second Sierra Vista meetings previously announced for the Draft San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area Resource Management Plan.

“We made the changes to make sure there is enough space for the interested public to attend, learn more about the Draft RMP, and provide their comments,” said District Manager Scott Feldhausen.

The new locations:

  • Aug. 8, 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Cochise College, 1025 South State Route 90, Benson, Ariz.

  • Aug. 22, 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Sierra Vista Police Department auditorium, 911 N. Coronado Drive, Sierra Vista, Ariz. Aug. 23, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Pima Community College, 401 N. Bonita Ave., Tucson, Ariz.

Members of the public can review the Draft and provide public comments until Sept. 27.

The BLM has worked together with federal, state, local and tribal cooperators to develop a range of alternatives, including the Preferred Alternative, in accordance with the Federal Land Policy and Management Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. The Draft evaluates the environmental impacts of each of the alternatives.

The Draft is available for the public to review and provide comments on the BLM ePlanning website at https://go.usa.gov/xnTuM. Copies of the Draft are also available at the Tucson Field Office and Hereford Project Office. Comments may also be submitted by fax to (520) 258-7238.

The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
