PHOENIX — The Bureau of Land Management announces the publication of a Public Land Order extending the withdrawal of 70 acres of public lands at the 230-acre Federal Correctional Institution–Phoenix for an additional 20 years subject to valid existing rights. The U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Prisons requested this additional 20-year withdrawal extension for an area that has been used for prison support facilities since 1983.

Under the extension, the lands will remain withdrawn from settlement, sale, location or entry under the general land laws, including U.S. mining laws, but not from leasing under the mineral leasing laws, and reserved for use by the Bureau of Prisons as a support facility area for the prison.

The Phoenix facility is a medium security Federal correctional institution located approximately 25 miles north of downtown Phoenix, just west of Interstate 17.
