BLM-Alaska Announces New Resource Advisory Council Appointments 2014

ANCHORAGE – Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell has made appointments to fill four vacancies on the 15-member Bureau of Land Management Alaska Resource Advisory Council (RAC), which advises the BLM on public land management issues.
Kathryn Martin of Glennallen was appointed to represent transportation and rights of way interests. E. Barrett Ristroph of Anchorage will represent environmental organization interests. Warren Olson of Anchorage was appointed to represent dispersed recreation. David Brown of Anchorage was reappointed to represent energy and minerals interests on the council. All of the appointments are for three years.
The BLM’s Resource Advisory Councils, composed of citizens chosen for their expertise in natural resource issues, help the Bureau carry out its stewardship of 245 million acres of public lands. The BLM-Alaska RAC meets at least twice a year.
Vacancies occur every year, and anyone interested in managing public lands and natural resources is encouraged to apply. Nomination opportunities will be announced soon. This year, the BLM-Alaska RAC will have two openings in Category One representing:
Commercial outdoor recreation
- Off-highway vehicle users
- Commercial recreation activities
- Energy and mineral development
There will also be two openings in Category Two representing:
- Nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations
- Dispersed recreational activities
- Archaeological and historical interests
One opening will be filled in Category Three representing:
- State or local elected office
- State of Alaska office managing natural resources, land, or water
- Alaska Native groups or organizations
- Academicians in natural resource management or the natural sciences
- Affected public-at-large.
