BLM Advisory Council to meet in Winnemucca

CARSON CITY, Nev.– The Bureau of Land Management today announced it will hold a meeting of the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council, demonstrating that partnerships and inclusion are vital to managing sustainable, working public lands. The public is welcome to attend the meeting which will occur on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Winnemucca District Office, 5100 East Winnemucca Blvd. from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Planned agenda items at the meeting include Subcommittee reports, District Manager reports, Fire update, RAC Standards & Guidelines, Off-Highway Vehicle permitting, Wild Horse & Burro update, Burning Man update, and Jordan Meadows Collaborative process. A field tour will take place on Friday, October 13, within the Winnemucca BLM District.
"The RACs have been integral to ensuring a diversity of thoughts, concerns and solutions for managing our public lands." said Ralph Thomas, Carson City District Manager. “Inclusion of the public in the decision process provides a local voice to land management and fosters an environment of dignity and respect.”
Two public comment periods are on the agenda at 8:10 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 to 5:00 p.m., during which the public may address the RAC. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.
Resource Advisory Councils are critical in assisting the BLM in continuing to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve. The 15 member RAC provides advice and recommendations to the BLM on resource and land management issues within the BLM Winnemucca and Carson City Districts.
