LAKEVIEW, Ore.  – The Bureau of Land Management today announced it will hold a teleconference meeting of the Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council. The public is welcome to listen in on the meeting, which will occur Friday, Nov. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time.

Resource Advisory Councils provide advice and recommendations necessary for the BLM to consider resource and land management issues within the agency.  BLM maintains 38 chartered advisory committees located in the West.  Resource Advisory Committees are sounding boards for BLM initiatives, regulatory proposals and policy changes.  Each citizen-based council consists of 10 to 15 members from diverse interests in local communities.  They assist in the development of committee recommendations that address public land management issues.  Resource councils are critical in assisting the BLM in continuing to be a good neighbor in the communities that the agency serves.

The meeting will consist of discussing potential management approaches for lands identified as possessing wilderness characteristics and potentially making recommendations for the development of draft alternatives for the Lakeview District’s Resource Management Plan Amendment.

“The Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council is made up of representatives of ranching, recreation, industry, local government and environmental groups, among others,” Lakeview District Manager Todd Forbes said.  “They have reviewed the lands with wilderness character inventory carefully and will use that information to help us develop draft the alternatives to be considered. Those alternatives will then be published for public review and comment.”

The telephone conference line number for the meeting is 1-866-524-6456, Participant Code: 608605.

A half-hour comment period, during which the public may address the RAC, will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.
