BURNS, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) today announced it will hold a meeting of the Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council (RAC). The public is welcome to attend the meeting, which will take place Thursday, Oct. 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Pacific Time at the Harney County Community Center, 478 N. Broadway, Burns, Ore.

The Southeast Oregon RAC provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior, through the BLM, on a variety of land-use planning and management issues in Southeast Oregon. This meeting of the RAC will involve reports and discussions regarding management of energy and minerals, timber, rangeland and grazing, commercial and dispersed recreation, wildland fire and fuels, and wild horses and burros, as well as possible recommendations regarding management actions proposed by the Burns, Vale or Lakeview Districts.

"The Southeast Oregon RAC is a valuable panel of citizens that provides input and advice into the management of more than 10 million acres of high desert public lands throughout southeast Oregon,” Burns District Manager Jeff Rose said.

The BLM maintains 38 chartered advisory councils in western states. RACs are sounding boards for BLM initiatives, regulatory proposals, and policy changes. Each citizen-based RAC consists of 10 to 15 members from diverse interests in local communities. RACs are critical in assisting the BLM to continue to be a good neighbor in communities throughout the west.

All meetings of the Southeast Oregon RAC and its subcommittees are open to the public in their entirety. A half-hour comment period, during which the public may address the subcommittee, will begin at 11:15 a.m. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and the time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.
