BURNS, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management announced it will hold a meeting of the Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council. The public is welcome to attend the meeting, which will occur on Thursday and Friday, October 11 to 12, at the Harney County Chamber of Commerce, 484 N. Broadway, Burns, OR 97720, beginning at 8 a.m. Pacific Time each day.

Resource Advisory Councils provide advice and recommendations necessary for the BLM to consider resource and land management issues within the agency.  BLM maintains 38 chartered advisory committees located in the West.  Resource Advisory Committees are sounding boards for BLM initiatives, regulatory proposals and policy changes.

Thursday, October 11, will consist of work sessions pertaining to the Lakeview Resource Management Plan Amendment and the Southeast Oregon (Vale) Resource Management Plan Amendment. On October 12, the Resource Advisory Council will hear a presentation by the State of Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife regarding its wolf management program, discuss possible alternatives for the Lakeview Resource Management Plan Amendment, formalize comments regarding the draft alternatives for the Southeast Oregon Resource Management Plan Amendment, and hear a summary report of the 2018 fire season.

“The BLM Resource Advisory Councils are an important forum for the community conversation that is a key component of public land management,” BLM Burns District Manager Jeff Rose said.  “RAC members provide valuable insight on issues and solutions for a wide variety of resource management activities in Harney, Malheur and Lake counties,” continued Rose.

A half-hour comment period, during which the public may address the RAC, will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, October 12. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.  For more information about the upcoming Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council meeting, please contact Larisa Bogardus at lbogardus@blm.gov or (541) 947-6811.
