Medford, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management is pleased to announce that the 2022 Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument Artist in Residence (AiR) is Anna Marie Pavlik.
Pavlik will spend two weeks in June and early July creating works that focus on the natural and cultural landscape of Cascade-Siskiyou. During their residency, Pavlik will also lead a public program.
Pavlik is a printmaker in Frankfurt, Kentucky who describes their art as place portraits that visually showcase the essence of a location. Before creating their work, Pavlik observes the location in person and then sketches, reads, and learns about the area. Pavlik creates imagery that has layered color and intricate detail.
A reception and presentation for Pavlik will be held at the COOP Community Classroom at 300 N. Pioneer St. in Ashland, Oregon, on Thursday, June 30th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM.
Artists look closely at the way the world works, notice things that others may have missed, challenge ideas, and create in a variety of forms. The Bureau of Land Management’s AiR program is founded on the belief that artists can provide new ways to look at and appreciate public lands. Partnerships and shared conservation efforts like the AiR program are a vital way forward in managing sustainable, working public lands.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
