BLM hosts National Public Lands Day volunteer opportunities
Event Description
SALEM, Ore. — On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Bureau of Land Management will host volunteer opportunities for National Public Lands Day (NPLD). Join thousands of volunteers nationwide to care for and celebrate America’s public lands through service and community events.
Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear sturdy shoes and outdoor-appropriate clothing. Tools, gloves and first-aid kits will be provided.
Volunteer Opportunities
Stewart Pond Disc Golf Course Improvements: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT
- In cooperation with Willamette Resource Education Network (WREN), volunteers will install parking lot posts, clean up trash, and remove downed branches to maintain the disc golf course and parking area.
- WREN will provide refreshments and pastries for volunteers.
- No registration required. Meet at the disc golf course, 4099 Steward Road, Eugene, OR.
National Public Lands Day at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. PDT
- Volunteers can participate in hour-long projects such as planting native species, winter garden preparation, litter pickup, and invasive plant removal.
- Registration is required the morning of the event (space is limited) at the Yaquina Head Interpretive Center, 750 NW Lighthouse Drive, Newport, OR.
Molalla River Cleanup: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT
- In cooperation with Molalla River Watch and SOLVE, volunteers will clean up trash, rehabilitate developed campsites, and support light trail work.
- Molalla River Watch will provide a post-cleanup celebration lunch for volunteers, beginning around noon at Feyrer Park.
- No registration required. Meet at Feyrer Park, 16185 S Feyrer Park Rd, Molalla, OR.
NPLD is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands, coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation.
