BLM Celebrates National Public Lands Day on Campbell Tract in Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Bureau of Land Management invites the public to celebrate National Public Lands Day with a volunteer event at BLM’s Campbell Tract Special Recreation Management Area on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. This event is free to the public, but registration is required.  

This year’s theme, "Caring for our Shared America” shines a spotlight on America’s 250th birthday. Our nation’s public lands serve as common ground where memories are made, experiences are shared, and people work side by side. 

During this year’s event, volunteers will have the opportunity to give back to their public lands through habitat restoration, trail maintenance, and garden winterization projects. These projects will directly benefit the local community as well as the 400,000 to 500,000 people who visit Campbell Tract each year.

“Campbell Tract continues to provide exceptional experiences and shared memories to those who visit,” said Stolf Short, Outdoor Recreation Planner. “This National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity to join with fellow stewards to connect with and care for our shared public lands.”  

To volunteer, please register online to provide the BLM with an accurate headcount for lunch and equipment. No experience is necessary. Just bring a water bottle, enthusiasm, and dress for the weather. Volunteers will meet at the BLM Campbell Creek Science Center, located at 5600 Science Center Drive, Anchorage, AK 99507.    

If you live in Alaska but are not located in the Anchorage area, the BLM is also hosting a National Public Lands Day volunteer event at the White Mountains National Recreation Area, just an hour’s drive from Fairbanks, Alaska. These two BLM-hosted events in Alaska are just a few of the many events celebrating National Public Lands Day across the country, reminding us what communities working together can accomplish for the public lands they love. 

The BLM’s Campbell Tract is a 730-acre Special Recreation Management Area located in the heart of Alaska’s largest urban area that provides year-round outdoor recreation opportunities at the most visited BLM recreation site in Alaska. Campbell Tract’s 25-mile trail system winds through the woods, providing recreation opportunities on unpaved trails that link to the adjacent Far North Bicentennial Park trail network. Campbell Tract also offers wildlife viewing opportunities to visitors, who have the chance to encounter moose, lynx, fox, black and brown bears, coyotes, migratory birds, and three species of Pacific Salmon while visiting these public lands.
