Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
View images of accessibility features in a new window.
The main parking lot is northwest of the building. There are 2 designated accessible spaces with a shared access aisle about 500 feet from the Center, with a paved pathway to the main entrance. On the south and west sides of the building are 2 additional accessible spaces, with less direct routes to the building’s main entrance.
Between the main parking lot and the Science Center entrance are a bench without arms and 3 unshaded kiosks. One displays wildlife safety information, at a height appropriate for visitors using wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The other kiosks display flyers and brochures that may be too small to read easily from a seated position. However, the flyers and brochures are also available inside the Center.
Cell phone reception at the site can be good to spotty, depending on your carrier.
Inside the building are 2 accessible flush toilets and an accessible drinking fountain and bottle-filling station.
A model beaver lodge that children can crawl through sits on the porch at the Center’s north entrance. Inside the Science Center are wide hallways and ample floor space. There are murals on the wall about the ecology of the region, and local wildlife specimens and artifacts sit on horizontal surfaces, which might be difficult to access for visitors in wheelchairs.
An accessible drinking fountain and bottle-filling station and 2 accessible flush toilets with sinks are inside the Center.
The Center offers programming for both children and adults; all programs are adaptable for people with special needs. Teachers, parents, and organizers can notify staff in advance if they have accessibility questions.
For the outdoor programs, there are 5 picnic tables, one of which is accessible with a cut-out area on one side in the center for wheelchair users. Please note that eating is not allowed outside because of bears.
Paved pathways provide access to the outdoor amphitheater, where some program activities take place.
Beyond the paved pathways around the building are natural and wood-chip-surface trails that are not accessible for typical wheelchairs. A 3-wheeled all-terrain wheelchair designed for children can be borrowed while attending a program or event.
Pathways and benches can become snow covered or icy and may present challenges for wheelchair users and other visitors.
There are hardened (accessible) trails in the nearby Campbell Tract Special Recreation Management Area, with accessible parking available.
Note: Descriptions and photos uploaded June 2025. Please note that actual on-the-ground conditions may vary due to natural events (e.g., weather, wildfires, erosion), normal wear and tear, or site improvements.
