Public Input & Actions

BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

BLM announces project to remove rockslide on Bizz Johnson Trail

The Bureau of Land Management will begin removing a rockslide that has closed part of the Bizz Johnson National Recreational Trail since January. Work starts Aug. 13 in partnership with the Lassen National Forest and the Lassen Land and Trails Trust, a nonprofit that supports trail management.

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on a proposed mining project for the Persistence Mine operation in San Bernardino County, Calif. Gold Discovery Group has requested approval of their plan of operations for a 128-acre placer gold mining operation on BLM-managed public land in the Atolia area.

Public land mining claim fees and waivers due Sept. 2

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management reminds claimants who wish to retain mining claims on public lands through the 2026 assessment year to pay a Maintenance Fee or file a Maintenance Fee Waiver Certification (Small Miner’s Waiver) on or before Sept. 2, to prevent the mining claim from being declared forfeit and void.

BLM announces seasonal fire restrictions in NE California, NW Nevada

SUSANVILLE, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management is issuing seasonal fire restrictions effective today for public lands in Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Sierra, Siskiyou and Shasta counties in California and Washoe County, Nevada, due to wildland fire danger. These seasonal restrictions are in addition to the year-round, statewide fire prevention order. The fire orders for Applegate and Eagle Lake field offices will remain in effect until further notice.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Bureau of Land Management will hold a competitive geothermal lease sale on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, offering 13 parcels totaling 23,000 acres across Imperial, Lassen, and Modoc counties. The auction will be held online via EnergyNet.

BLM approves clinoptilolite exploration project in Inyo County

BARSTOW, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management has approved St. Cloud Mining’s mining exploration project adjacent to its existing mine in Inyo County. The exploration will occur within the BLM’s Amargosa North Area of Critical Environmental Concern and result in less than one acre of surface disturbance.

ARCATA, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management is issuing fire restrictions for public lands in Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino counties beginning Thursday, July 3. These seasonal fire restrictions listed in the fire order will be in place to help prevent wildfire and will remain in effect until further notice. These restrictions are in addition to the BLM year-round statewide fire prevention order also in effect until further notice.
