As a result of progress made on the Salt Creek Fire, the Bureau of Land Management Butte Falls Field Office is reducing the closure area of BLM-managed lands in the area for public and firefighter safety.

Bureau of Land Management law enforcement rangers recently caught an arsonist who ignited a small wildfire earlier this month.

The BLM Burns District plans to implement approximately 40,000 acres of aerial spray treatments targeting medusahead on public land beginning August 1. Both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft will be used in the effort.

The BLM has tentative plans to gather wild horses within and immediately adjacent to the Souths Steens Herd Management Area in southeast Oregon. The helicopter gather would begin around August 15.

The sustained heat wave, along with extremely dry fuel conditions, have prompted officials with the BLM to increase campfire restrictions on the Rogue National Wild and Scenic River.

Fire officials from the Spokane District have acted in response to dangerous fire conditions across Eastern Washington. Additional public use restrictions are now in effect on lands administered by the BLM and BOR.

To help prevent human-caused wildfires on public lands, Vale District Bureau of Land Management will be implementing additional fire restrictions beginning Friday, July 12.

As a result of the Upper Applegate Fire, the BLM has temporarily closed BLM-managed lands in the area for public and firefighter safety. Members of the public may not enter closed areas, and all uses are prohibited.

The BLM’s Western Oregon Resource Advisory Council will participate in a meeting at the Coos Bay District Office on July 10 and field tour to the Loon Lake Recreation Site and other public lands in the Coos Bay Area.
