Salem, Ore. – Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands and recreation sites within the Northwest Oregon District may be inaccessible or have delayed openings due to damage from recent snowstorms.

BLM lands located within the Upper Willamette and Siuslaw Field Offices in the southern Willamette Valley experienced significant storm damage. Downed trees and snow accumulation are limiting access on BLM roads, particularly those in higher elevations. Campgrounds that sustained potential damage include Sharps Creek and Clay Creek Campgrounds. Numerous sections of the Row River Trail are temporarily inaccessible due to downed trees.

Northwest Oregon District staff are working diligently to identify the full extent of the damage. Needed road maintenance work and repairs to recreation sites will be prioritized, and completed with a focus on providing for public safety and carrying out critical forest management activities.

“We anticipate several months of work to restore road access to areas impacted by the storm,” said Jose Linares, Northwest Oregon District Manager. “There are some roads where over a hundred trees were blown down per mile by the storm,” continued Linares.

To report storm impacts, please contact the closest office (locations include Salem, Springfield and Tillamook). For additional information about the BLM’s Northwest Oregon District visit: www.blm.gov/office/northwest-oregon-district-office
