ST. GEORGE, Utah—An Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared for the proposed Shivwits Plateau Landscape Restoration Project (PEPC-98370/ DOI-BLM-AZ-A030-2021-0005). The project is located within the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, Mohave County, Arizona. The Monument and this project are cooperatively managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the National Park Service (NPS).

Monitoring of vegetation and soils indicate that vegetation conditions on BLM and NPS managed lands have changed over time, including weed infestations, overgrown juniper and ponderosa pine trees, decadent sagebrush, and a reduction of desirable native plants. Proposed treatments include prescribed fire, herbicide use on invasive plants, manual and mechanical cutting. The project goals are to improve wildlife habitat, reduce fuel loading, provide forage for livestock and wildlife, and reduce invasive plant infestations. Protection of potentially affected resources is planned into the project design.
