Springfield, Ore. – Today the BLM announced a temporary closure of the Carpenter Bypass Mountain Bike Trail area, located west of Lorane in Lane County, Oregon. The temporary closure will begin on April 26, 2018, and prohibit all unauthorized visitors from walking, hiking, bicycling, or driving on any road or trail within the closure area, Mondays through Fridays. As stewards, the BLM manages public lands for the benefit of current and future generations, supporting conservation as we pursue our multiple-use mission.

The temporary closure is needed for public safety during active timber harvest operations for the “Letz Ride” timber sale. These operations may occur in the area through March 2021. During this time, portions of the area will periodically be accessible for visitors. Closed areas will be signed.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding while timber harvest operations are underway to help carry out our multiple-use mission in the area,” said Jose Linares, District Manager. “We will work with operators to provide safe public access, when possible, particularly on weekends,” continued Linares.

Visitors are encouraged to contact the local BLM office in Springfield before heading outdoors – (541) 683-6600 or (888) 442-3061.
