Newport, Ore. – Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8th, the BLM’s Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area will host a Victorian Holiday Celebration. Take a step back in time to relive the 19th century holiday traditions celebrated by the families of Yaquina Head’s lighthouse keepers. Throughout the day, families can participate in making a variety of Victorian-era crafts while listening to holiday tunes. Visitors can start the morning with open caroling while enjoying tasty treats and cider. Musical performances will continue through the day and those who stay until the end will be greeted by a special guest making their annual jolly appearance!
Admission to the park (and this event) is free. Get some holiday shopping done, too, with a 20% discount at the non-profit Yaquina Head Book Store. The schedule for the day is as follows:
10:00 a.m. – Open Caroling Followed by Hammered Dulcimer & Whistle
11:00 a.m. – High Tide Northwest: Women’s Quartet
12:00 p.m. – Spindrift: Hammered Dulcimer, Mandolin and Viola
1:00 p.m. – Riptyde: Local Rock ‘n’ Roll Band
2:00 p.m. – Mary-Beth Nickel & Friends on Harp, Flutes, and Drums
3:00 p.m. – Coastalaires Barbershop Chorus with Special Holiday Guest
The Yaquina Head Interpretive Center will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All other areas of the park will be open from 8:00 a.m. to dusk.
