Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area celebrates National Public Lands Day

JUPITER, Fla. – The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse will join thousands of volunteers across the country to celebrate National Public Lands Day on September 30, 2017. This year’s event will coincide with the International Coastal Cleanup to assist in recovery efforts due to Hurricane Irma, and the staff and volunteers at the lighthouse will begin work at 8 a.m. Volunteers will be gathering trash and helping clear debris on foot, by snorkeling, or paddling along the waterway.
“National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity for family, friends, classmates, or coworkers of any age or ability to spend a day outdoors and make a real difference on public lands through volunteering,” said Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area Manager Peter DeWitt. “I look forward to a great day and hope folks can come out and enjoy the beautiful waterways while making the grounds and lighthouse an even better place to visit.”
Through events like National Public Lands Day, the Bureau of Land Management works to promote shared conservation stewardship by connecting people to public lands in their community. In partnership with the National Environmental Education Foundation, National Public Lands Day inspires environmental stewardship and encourages the use of public lands for education recreation and general health.
