BLM seeks grant to install more shelters at St. Anthony Sand Dunes

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – The Bureau of Land Management Upper Snake Field Office wants to improve the public’s experience at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes by installing more shelters at Egin Lakes. Public input is needed on this project application to successfully obtain financial assistance from Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.
The BLM is requesting funding for the shelter installation at the Picnic Area of the Egin Lakes Campground. Many day-use visitors at the Egin Lakes Campground expressed support for the idea, stating they would enjoy the additional shade a shelter would provide. “The Picnic Area lacks shade and in the summer at the Sand Dunes it gets hot!” said Jason Byrd, recreation planner for the USFO, “These shelters would improve the comfort level of day-use visitors and protect them from harmful UV rays.”
The application will be submitted to the Recreation Vehicle (RV) Program, established using RV registration fees. Part of the grant application seeks public comment related to the proposed projects.
